Great Wolf Lodge Part 2 {2012}

We spent two nights at Great Wolf Lodge, which gave us plenty of time to enjoy the park without feeling rushed. We had two rooms. One for the boys and one for the girls (and Apollo). Our kids were so awesome. We had zero trouble at bedtime with the little ones. We laid them down, said good night and went to sleep.

One way we were able to afford the trip was to take almost all of our meals. I love that Great Wolf Lodge allows you to take your own food.  We cooked ahead (Asian salad, muffins, granola) and took portable food (sandwich fixings, burritos and yogurt).  Chuck wanted to buy at least one meal, as a treat for the children. This was our vacation after all. And believe me, with eleven children at home we never go out to eat or order food it.

For lunch the last day we ordered pizza and then when we arrived home in Bellingham we grabbed Chinese takeout. The kids were beyond thrilled and it was wonderful finale to our little vacation.

Someone asked how Avi did on this trip and she did amazingly well. She loved the rides and loved the freedom to scream her head off as we went down the slides (she’s always been a screamer and it just isn’t appropriate in most settings). By Wednesday morning however, she had all she could take and began acting out. But overall, it was a positive experience for her.

Chuck and I are so glad we spent the money on this trip. Memories like this are invaluable to a family.

  1. We <3 Great Wolf! We've only been once, and someone took us out for dinner that evening…. wow, they know you probably won't bring your own food and charge accordingly. Amazing place, though. My kids were enthralled by the creepy animatronic talking guy in the fireroom. Is it still there? It's so weird to read a blog near us! Wish we'd been there to play with you!

  2. looks like Chuck had a great time too…he was right in there with the laughs and smile. guys need to take time off. this was a great trip…right when time out was needed.
    God bless!

  3. Look like so much fun! We are taking the kids there for one night over spring break (shhh! it’s a surprise!) and seeing these pictures makes me so excited! I love family get-a-ways!!

  4. We’re headed there in a week! I’d love a little more info on how you brought dinner stuff — i.e, did you microwave individual burritos? Are the fridges big enough for a 1/2 gallon of milk? If you don’t mind answering in the comments or emailing me, that would be awesome! Thanks. 🙂 Haleyballast (at) gmail (dot) com

    1. Haley- We took a whole gallon of milk and several large containers of yogurt. It fit just fine when we took a shelf out. We took canned beans and microwaved them (in bowls) then assembled burritoes. We also took lunch meat, cheese and premade Asian salad for the fridge. We had no trouble fitting our perishable food for 13 in the one small fridge.

  5. Your trip looks amazing! Great pics of the kids. I am always surprised that Hezzy and Tucker are so close in size. My kids are so close in size, people always ask if they are twins. We are on our first family vacation in some time and people are constantly asking if our “girls” are twins. We have a boy and a girl! A long haired boy…
