LeapFrog Summer Camp

LeapFrog Summer Camp is well underway in our house…even if we haven’t quite finished school and the weather hasn’t quite warmed up. While I am getting paid to write this post, I want you to know I always blog honestly about products…I don’t get any incentives or rewards for “liking” the product. And I only choose to review products that I would consider using or buying.

That said, LeapFrog Summer Camp is an awesome collection of fun summertime learning activities. I love being able to pick and choose…I only do what sounds appealing and I do it when it fits into our schedule.

Along with some awesome puzzles and games (which wouldn’t be any fun to photograph), my little ones have been busy exploring God’s creation around here. I have nearly a dozen mason jars with caterpillars and/or cocoons lined up on my dining room counter right now.

Our property has been practically crawling with caterpillars this year. I’ve never seen so many before. And let me tell you, I was shocked to see the caterpillars actually spinning cocoons and eating the pounds of leaves my children are bringing in…it never seemed to work when I was a kid…At any rate, I’ll update you when our moths appear!

Along with collecting caterpillars, Enoch helped Avi and Tucker build cool little bird houses out of milk cartons.

He did the cutting for them, then showed them how to wrap the outside in yarn for a colorful and biodegradable covering.

I love the way it looks hanging in our front yard.

And best of all, I love not having to think of these ideas myself. Because I’m still sleep-deprived and Apollo still hates me to sit at the computer (he’s napping right now). After his one night of sleeping through, we had two terrible nights…then last night he slept from 10-6…I am praying, praying, praying that now that he can breathe and he’s not slowly starving his body will learn to sleep.

Cause I really need some.

Sounds like a very cool program for your younger ones. Definitely a bonus that Mom doesn’t have to come up with all the ideas and your older ones can participate in a leadership roll.

Continued prayers for Apollo to grow stronger and get more and more sleep each day.

I remember back in 1984 during a peak year when those tent caterpillars ate every leaf off every tree. Their squished bodies coated the roads and sidewalks under the trees because you couldn’t even walk without stepping on them. My small town’s annual fair’s theme was The Caterpillar Stomp (the year before was The Slug Festival). Kids broke out in spots because they handled the caterpillars too much and the hairs got in their skin. I had nightmares they were crawling all over my body! My teacher let us out of class early with magnifying glasses to burn them. I love little critters of all kinds except the tent caterpillars! Today I see them and shudder. I’d rather pick up a slug:)

Do you know if its available in Australia?I’d love a program like this for my kids.they are six and a half down to two and would love these hands on activities.and on the topic of Apollo sleeping through another night…seems he is in training most definetly to sleep through the nights and in turn you can sleep better after you adjust to two years of not sleeping.xx

I too have been loving the Summer Camp. My little ones have been doing the items that they are capable of doing. I even modified a few things so that they could do it. The don’t know we are actually following a program, they are just having fun doing it.

I like the fact that I can be a week behind following the program and still be okay. We started a week late due to VBS, but will have room at the end before school starts to finish it up.

Glad to see your kids are also enjoying it. I too never had luck with caterpillars. They always seemed to not come out for me.
