Girls, Village Books and Jalepenos. It's how we like to party.

Some Like it Hot {Village Books and Jalapeños}

Posted on March 15, 2017January 15, 2019 by Renee

Some like it hot.

Some like it cold.

Some like Village Books.

And some just want to chow down on jalapeño peppers because they live in New Zealand.

Girls, Village Books and Jalapenos. It's how we like to party.

With the younger kids in school, Adalia, Tilly, Kalina and I are having a plenty of Grown Up Girl Bonding Time.

First up, a trip to Village Books.

Confession: I rarely buy books made out of paper anymore. I buy strictly Kindle books (you know how I feel about clutter) unless I have to buy it in paper form.

Even so, what book lover doesn’t enjoy browsing the shelves of a giant bookstore?

And who doesn’t want to drink out of a Pink Octopus Ceramic Coffee Mug with Tentacle Handle*?

Even after all these years, we can’t resist taking pictures of random mermaid products for BEN!

Poor guy.

I spotted this beauty in the books.

And this one too.

Adalia was a bit aghast at the Fashion Faux Pas of wearing sweatpants. Out in public.

I had to explain to my kiwi offspring that these aren’t just any sweatpants…they are Hipster Sweatpants.

I don’t think she understood.

By the time we’d had our fill of tentacles and mermaids we’d worked up quite an appetite.

Adalia was dying to eat Mexican food.

For some reason, there aren’t Mexican restaurants on every street corner in New Zealand.

So we headed to a nearby Jalapenos restaurant.

Adalia ordered tortilla soup and asked for hot sauce to go along with it. The waitress brought a small cup and told Adalia it was really hot so she should only add a few drops.

“Okay,” said Adalia. “I’ll just start with half”.

She dumped half of the hot sauce in her soup and devoured it with a huge grin on her face.

Once she finished her soup, she dug into the fried jalapenos she had ordered. The waitress tried, once again, to warn her.

“Only eat the bottom half!” she said. “The seeds are really spicy”.

This is what was left when she finished.

[She never was one to follow directions.]

The rest of us stuck to tamer dishes.

Like tacos and guacamole.

And now Adalia has headed up north to visit her Canadian family for a few days.

And us?

We’re stocking the fridge with spicy foods and eating the Pineapple Lumps she brought.
