Even though I have owned my photography business for five years, I used to think I wasn’t a “maternity photographer”. As much as I think the pregnant body is beautiful, I wasn’t into long scarves blowing in the wind over half naked pregnant bellies. First friends started asking for maternity photos and then clients, who wanted maternity, birth and newborn photos. 
Then I made a happy discovery. I do enjoy taking maternity photos that fit my vision and style. I have turned down clients requesting the “scarf flowing in the wind” type photos. I could take those photos, but they wouldn’t turn out as well as photos that find my perspective as a photographer.
As time goes on and I take more pictures of my children, as I work with more clients, I realize my very best photos come when we share a vision. I like to document the beautiful (and sometimes messy) side of life. 
Posed photos can be beautiful and timeless, especially when the family is relaxed and having fun.And I love to document the fleeting moments of family. Mom and dad and son, engaged in a book together. In a few weeks a fourth family member will join the family and the dynamic will change. I feel so honored to have been able to capture these images.
And Silas? He made my job an absolute delight!

I love these. I dislike most maternity photos. Scarves, naked bellies etc. Your photos show life, family and are beautiful.
I love THESE maternity photos. I would be so uncomfortable with the flowing gowns, hardly clothed Mama’s!
If you’re Demi Moore, the bare belly thing is okay, but if you’re Stretch Mark City (after three) like me, it can be less cool. But a friend took a photo of me hauling out my unclothed 7-months along belly bumping into my husband’s unclothed paunch–it’s actually quite a cute photo, one of our favorites, and we have it up there on the wall with the family photos. So there’s an idea for you . . .
